Sample Summer Camp Itinerary
Day 1
10:00am – Arrival Time: Campers arrive at CLAS Ropes Course and gather in our amphitheater. The staff members welcome the campers and explain the camp rules. Then we will break into groups for some warm-up games.
10:30 – Shark Island: This low course game places campers in a make-believe scenario where they are on a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean, and they must work together to swing over to their life boat. After completing the activity, campers and councilors have a discussion about teamwork, sacrifice, and the positive impact that supportive friends and family can have.
11:00am – Giant Swing: This is a swing like you’ve never experienced before. Each camper puts on a harness and helmet, then are safely strapped into the swing. Their teammates on the ground then pull them to the top of a 40-foot pulley system, where the camper will release themselves and drop for the biggest swinging experience of their life. For those daring enough, they can even attempt to do some front/back flips as they swing back and forth.
12:00pm – Lunch: All groups gather for a meal that is provided by CLAS Ropes Course.
12:30pm – Zip Tour: After splitting off again into our small groups, we head to the zip tour. The team climbs a 35-foot spiral stair case to the platform at the top where the two-hour tour begins. Seven consecutive zip lines take you on an aerial adventure through the trees and across the river and back.
2:30pm – Artesian Beams: This low course activity allows campers to challenge their patience and problem-solving skills. The team must work together to cross an imaginary river of poison without letting any of the team members fall in. With only three wooden beams available, they must figure out how to best use their resources and support each other as they complete this “dangerous” task.
3:30pm –Rock wall: Our 40-foot rock wall is great for all skill levels. Whether the camper is a beginner or an expert, we have routes along the wall that will challenge and empower them.
4:30pm – Gather: All groups gather together in the amphitheater where we will have a group discussion. Facilitators lead the discussion and ask thought-provoking questions to help each camper tie-in what they learned throughout the day to their daily lives.
5:00pm – Break Camp: For those who choose the 2 Day Family Summer Camp Program and want to camp, you can set up your tent(s) on the Ropes Course and have the rest of the evening to enjoy canoes and the campfire. The Provo River Parkway Trail is nearby as well as Utah Lake State Park.
Day 2
10:00am – Arrival Time: Campers arrive and gather in amphitheater. Staff members welcome them back and split them into the same groups they were in the day before.
10:30am – Lava Crossing: This low course activity is an excellent opportunity for campers to practice their leadership skills. The team has to cross the field without touching the lava, and they only have a few foam squares to stand on.
11:00am – Canoeing: Campers get to go relax and have fun on the beautiful Provo river. They pick a buddy and head out on the water. They get to enjoy nature and may be lucky enough to spot some wild life. There are owls, otters, ducks, mink, eagles, and beavers that have been spotted.
12:00pm – Lunch: Each team meets back together in the amphitheater for another provided meal.
12:30pm – Mohawk Walk: Campers get to participate in another challenging low course activity. The campers must walk along cables strung a foot above the ground without falling into the “lava”. Team members work together to complete the task, and are encouraged to learn that making mistakes can be a positive experience if they learn from those mistakes and try again.
2:00pm – Eskimo Blanket: Campers gather around a heavy-duty mesh canvas (similar to trampoline material) and each participant gets the chance to sit in the middle and be thrown into the air. Their teammates launch them into the air (campers get to choose how high they want to go,) and then catch them. The Eskimo Blanket activity encourages campers to face their fears and learn to deepen their trust in their friends.
2:30pm – Ring Jump: Participants get to climb another 40-foot pole, stand on a platform, then jump off. A metal ring hangs about 8 feet away from the platform and campers are encouraged to try to jump to it and hold on. Even if they don’t catch the ring, the safety ropes keep them safe and they are lowered slowly back to the ground.
3:00pm – Adventure Park: Our adventure park offers a variety of obstacles and challenges, all at 30-45 feet in the air. The whole team gets to play on the adventure park simultaneously and can either work with other team members to complete obstacles, or attempt them on their own. Each participant is harnessed into safety cables, so taking risks on the adventure park is perfectly safe and often encouraged.
4:30pm - Gather: All teams return to the amphitheater and we have one last group discussion. Campers are given the opportunity to share their experiences on the ropes course and talk about the things they learned. Councilors share a few last thoughts to close before campers go home.
5:00pm – Break Camp
Optional:
Overnight Camping: Bring your own camping vehicle, tent, hammock, etc. or reserve the TeePee
